What comes to mind when you think of the Westountry? Boats, harbours, coastal landscapes, countryside and pretty villages perhaps?

From 25 April to 8 May, local artist, Wyn Appleford, treats us to a selection of her Westcountry images when she sets up a new exhibition of paintings at A la Ronde, the 16 sided National Trust property near Exmouth.

Wyn, who was born and brought up in Aberdeen, says: "It was not until I moved to Ireland in 1967 that I became interested in painting. Since then I have travelled and lived in Cornwall, Malta and Scotland and each country has helped to broaden my experience of the maritime world of ships, fishing boats and harbours. The beautiful scenery of East Devon now provides me with endless subject matter for my paintings."

Wyn is hard pressed to match supply with demand for her paintings and her work is owned by collectors from many parts of the world. Her paintings show a feeling for colour and she has a distinctive style of her own.

A la Ronde is open daily and entry to the exhibition in the stable and tea-room is free.
