Devon-based Taylor Wimpey staff joined thousands of others across the region as they took to their bikes on Cycle to Work Day on 1st August 2024.

Employees at the housebuilder’s head office in Exeter did their commute by bicycle, helping to keep traffic from the roads and cut emissions. Whilst some participating cyclists are based not too far from their workplace, others came from further afield - with one making the 13-mile trek along the scenic River Exe National Cycle Route from Dawlish.

Sustainable travel is a priority for Taylor Wimpey and many of the housebuilder’s developments across the region include cycle, walking and public transport connections to enable residents to leave their cars at home. Electric vehicle charging points are also being installed at several newer developments.

Mark Sweeney, Commercial Manager for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, cycled the 26-mile round trip from Dawlish. He said: “We all need to do our bit to protect the environment and reduce the amount of emissions going into the atmosphere.

“As a company we design our new developments to be as sustainable as possible, from integrating sustainable transport links to installing energy efficient technologies in our homes. But it’s also important that our staff do their bit too, so we were proud to support Cycle to Work Day this year.”

The Taylor Wimpey staff who took part in this year’s Cycle to Work Day were:

  • Michele Sweatman, Commercial Administrator - cycled from Taylor Wimpey’s Mayfield Gardens development in Monkerton

  • Mark Sweeney, Commercial Manager - cycled from Dawlish

  • Eduardo Rosete, Accounts and Payroll Clerk - cycled from St Thomas in Exeter

Among the Taylor Wimpey developments to include cycle routes and links to wider networks are Sherford, in Plymouth, and Cranbrook, on the outskirts of Exeter, which also has its own railway station. New routes are also being constructed at Orchard Grove in Comeytrowe, Taunton.

Cycle to Work Day was set up by Cyclescheme, a company that offers cycle to work schemes for a range of businesses.
