This November, an intrepid team member from Barchester Healthcare’s new Stoneham Grove care home in Tilehurstwill set out on a challenging, extraordinary and life-changing trek, all in the name of checking chests!  Along with Giovanna Fletcher and some other famous faces, Stoneham Grove’s plucky Home Services Advisor, Megan Best, will embark on a 5 day trek in the Indian Himalayas, in a bid to raise funds towards CoppaFeel's life-saving mission.

Breast cancer charity, CoppaFeel, are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal.

The reason Megan has chosen to take on this challenge is because she is a carrier of the BRCA2 gene, this gene significantly increases the risk of getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Because of this risk, in July 2023 brave Megan started her journey of preventative surgery and had a bilateral mastectomy to lower her risk of breast cancer.

Megan comments: “This is my first time taking on a challenge like this and I’m really excited to tackle it but also very nervous, especially about what the weather might throw at me!  I’m hoping to raise lots of money for CoppaFeel and I know all the team at Stoneham Grove are behind me plus I have a great group of people climbing with me and all their support along with the money I’m raising will help me go the distance!

“Breast cancer has affected my family and the families of close friends and I want to support this amazing charity to help stop others having to go through what I’ve been through”, she continues.

If you would like to support Megan, her justgiving page isMegan Best is fundraising for CoppaFeel! and any donations will be gratefully received.
