Exeter Canal and Quay Trust seeks new chair

Formed in 1981, the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust is a charity that renovates, develops and leases out the heritage quayside properties and spaces in and around Exeter Quay. We also fund and organise events that promote and celebrate our waterfront location and its remarkable history and heritage, including the Exeter Heritage Harbour Festival, the Quayside Shanty Festival and our Summer at the Quayside activity programme.

The Trust also manages the Exeter Custom House, which is a Grade I Listed building that has been transformed into a centre of arts and culture at the heart of the quayside. Exeter also boasts designated Heritage Harbour status, which we are keen to continue utilising and celebrating.

We fund a Cultural Partners Programme and currently work with Art Work Exeter and Literature Works to put on even more creative activities at both the Exeter Custom House and around the Quayside area. We also work with a number of additional external partners to deliver more events including markets, live gigs and other events across the waterfront and under the Transit Shed.

The Exeter Canal and Quay Trust Trust is seeking a new Chair to support the Board and Trust.

We are working with Shine Charity Recruitment to support this recruitment process. They are keen to speak to people who are interested in the heritage and future potential of the area and are excited about the opportunities ahead.

You will need to bring sound governance knowledge, experience of chairing meetings, emotional intelligence, financial acumen and, of course, the time to dedicate to the role.

Our Board consists of both independent Trustees and those appointed by Exeter City Council. After many years of hard work and dedication, our wonderful Independent Chair, Alan Williamson, has informed us of his intention to retire. We are now searching for someone who has the experience to step into the role and lead the Board into an exciting future.

Jackie Dawkins of Shine Charity Recruitment is supporting us to find the right person for this role. If you think this might be you, please get in touch with her for a chat. She can be contacted by emailing jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk
