During Free Wills Month, Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) are encouraging supporters to consider leaving a charitable gift in their Will to help protect the charity’s income and lifesaving service for the people of Devon in the years to come.

One in three of DAA’s lifesaving missions are funded by Gifts in Wills that have been left to them by generous supporters, an outstanding number that equated to 819 calls for their specialist help being funded in this way in 2024.

Donations of this nature help hundreds of charities to continue their work in local communities and every gift received makes an important difference to the lives of others.

Leaving a legacy to the service is a very special kind of gift and offers a touching opportunity to do something positive towards the lives of those that may, when they least expect it, need the expert critical care that DAA provides.

A gift as little as 1% of an estate can be pledged to the charity still leaving 99% to family members and loved ones. However, more than half of adults in the UK don’t have a Will and many don’t know how to go about getting one.

Free Wills Month is a campaign that runs twice a year, in March and October, and DAA have proudly partnered with FreeWills.co.uk once again to raise awareness and provide supporters with the opportunity to make their own fully comprehensive Will for free.

Wills are checked by a practicing solicitor and FreeWills.co.uk is signed up to the Fundraising Regulator and the Will Writing Society.

Jo-Anne Rigby, Head of Fundraising for Devon Air Ambulance said:  ‘Last year we were tasked to 2459 mission, 819 of which were made possible by gifts in Wills. Kindly considering us in your will costs nothing to you now but please know that your gift will make a significant difference in the future to somebody’s loved one in need of urgent critical care. A gift in your Will is considered by us as a lifesaving mission flown in your memory. We have a useful information booklet available on our website so please do look there, as many questions you may have, can be answered.’
