Exeter Chiefs centre Will Rigg has extended his stay at Sandy Park as he signs a new Chiefs contract.

Signing from Championship club Coventry in February 2024, Rigg has since debuted in all top-flight competitions – the Premiership Rugby Cup, the Gallagher Premiership and the Investec Champions Cup.

“I’m really excited to re-sign with the club,” Rigg said. “Since joining last year, it’s been a really positive experience getting the chance to play in the Premiership and Europe. When the opportunity came to continue my journey with the Chiefs, I was extremely happy to be able to take it.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself, how I deal with new environments and testing myself against some of the best players in the world. I’ve really enjoyed a lot of great moments on and off the pitch.”

Born in Solihull, the 24-year-old showed real promise with a rugby ball in hand for Cardiff Met University in the BUCS league. Recruited out of university by Coventry, Rigg became a prolific attacking threat while at Butts Park Arena.

He had chalked up 31 appearances, 14 tries and selection to the 2022/23 Championship Rugby Team of the Season when Chiefs came calling looking to recruit depth to the centre field.

Originally due to join Chiefs for the outset of the 2024/25 season, injuries enforced an early switch to Devon. Rigg hit the ground running, scoring two tries in his first outing against Scarlets in a mid-season friendly.

An explosive ball carrier, in the last year as a Chief Rigg has made 17 appearances in all competitions while dotting down for six tries as he has quickly become a firm favourite amongst Chiefs supporters.

Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter believes the centre has more room to grow in his role as a Chief and is intrigued to see his future with the club.

“We’re really pleased Will has agreed to stay with us. He’s a young guy who has come up from the Championship and started to play a bigger and bigger part in what we’re trying to achieve.

“He gives us some real momentum and go-forward in the midfield. We can see a lot of development in him already and we think he’s got a big future in the game and will keep improving over a period of time.

“He’s not been here particularly long but we do think he’s one of the players we can keep moving forward with. He’s fit in very well with his teammates – he’s a hard-working guy, very diligent in what he does.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him move forward with the group as we grow stronger over the coming seasons.”
