Exeter Gears Up for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 as Canada’s Alex Tessier Prepares for Scotland Clash

As excitement builds for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, Canada’s Alex Tessier is relishing the chance to return to Exeter, where she has spent the past season playing for the Chiefs.

The dynamic fly-half is set to take centre stage at Sandy Park when Canada faces Scotland on September 6th, in what promises to be one of the most thrilling match-ups of the tournament’s pool stage.

Tessier said: “Sandy Park is an amazing stadium, and I can't wait for our game against Scotland. The atmosphere down in Exeter is incredible, and I know the fans will come out in full force to support the tournament. It’s going to be a special occasion.”

With Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 set to be the biggest in history, Tessier believes the standard of play has never been higher.

“It’s such an exciting tournament to be part of,” she added. “As a team, we’ve developed so much - we have a real strategy now, we move the ball well, we’re playing those 20-metre passes, and we’ve evolved our kicking game. The sport as a whole has grown massively, and this World Cup will showcase just how far it has come.”

With the tournament being staged in England for the first time since 2010, Tessier is confident it will inspire the next generation of players.

“I truly believe the game is trending in the right direction in terms of attracting and retaining more women and girls,” she said. “It used to be male-dominated, but that is changing fast—more and more young girls are picking up a rugby ball, and this World Cup will only accelerate that shift.”

Canada’s match against Scotland is expected to be one of the tournament’s most closely contested fixtures, with both teams bringing years of growth and development into the competition.

“The match with Scotland will be a really dynamic game,” Tessier explained. “They’ve been building their identity for years, just like us, and they’re a really strong side. It’s going to be a real tier-one battle, and we’re ready for it.”

With over 220,000 tickets already sold - 50% more than at the same stage ahead of the last Women’s Rugby World Cup - fans are urged to secure their seats before it’s too late.

Tessier added: “Please come to the game, I guarantee an amazing game with a great atmosphere. Ticket sales are at record levels, and it’ll be great viewing!”
