Exeter City's League 2 schedule announced for 2013/14 season

For players and fans (and mascots) alike the waiting is over, as Exeter City's League 2 fixtures have been announced this morning. Exeter City’s 2013/14 campaign will begin with the visit of Bristol Rovers to St James Park on the first day of the season, on Saturday 3 August.

One City fixture that had already been confirmed will be against Queens Park Rangers following the Hoops’ friendly against City in pre-season. They’ll also be visiting in the Capital One Cup on an evening in the week commencing Monday 5 August (exact date/time yet to be confirmed).

City midfielder Liam Sercombe says: “I think that’s a really good draw for us. It will be great to have a team like QPR right at the start of the season to see how well we do, and then we’ll kick on in the league after that too.”

The first opportunity of the new season to clock up some miles on the road comes on Saturday 10 August, as the Grecians travel to Field Mill to face newly-promoted Mansfield Town.

As ever, the Devon Derbies against Plymouth and Torquay offer the prospect of both points and pride.  Exeter City will host the Pilgrims on Saturday 5 October before travelling to Home Park on Saturday 25 March 2014, with a visit to face the Gulls at Plainmoor on Saturday 29 December and a return meeting at the Park on Easter Monday (21 April).

Also in the festive schedule, City will be making a Boxing Day trip to Jamie Cureton’s new side Cheltenham Town, before welcoming Wycombe Wanderers as the first visitors to St James Park in 2014 – in a switcheroo from the season just ended, the Chairboys will be the ones travelling to SJP for the New Year’s Day game.

Later that month, Bristol Rovers will host the reverse at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday 11 January, and recently-relegated Hartlepool will be the 46th and final League 2 game of the regulation season on Saturday 3 May, as City makes the daunting 700-mile round-trip to Victoria Park on the closing weekend.

All fixtures are subject to change.
