It’s official, heritage brings happiness, says Historic England.

Volunteers will be trained to help review, manage, protect and enhance the heritage assets in their conservation area, such as buildings, monuments and landscapes. These assets are an irreplaceable resource, which have helped to give East Devon towns and villages their distinctive character and add to the attraction for local residents and visitors alike.

Topsham based sports and film memorabilia company, Exclusive Memorabilia have made the charity Will’s Way their charity partner of the year. The company have pledged to give the charity £1,000 worth of signed memorabilia over the next year for them to auction off. Student wins RES prize for dedication to renewable energy

A student from Exeter University is celebrating after being awarded a cash prize from the world’s largest independent renewables company in recognition of his professionalism during his course.

Conor Cowden, a fourth-year MEng Energy Engineering student at the university’s Penryn campus, received the ‘RES Power for Good Prize’ and £100 for being the best student in the field of wind energy.

British Sign Language tours introduced at two top Devon heritage attractions

Seaton Tramway and Lundy Island, two very different and unique heritage attractions in Devon, have now introduced special tours aimed explicitly at Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users.

The new filmed tours feature a BSL signer, to help BSL users get a better understanding of the information presented at both attractions, and help them feel engaged with the history of the sites.

UNESCO celebrates World Cities Day

Exeter wins prestigious UNESCO City of Literature status

A company from South Devon has been named one of the best rural businesses in the country after winning a regional Rural Business Award.

Time is running out to take part in consultation about proposals to increase council tax payment support for low income working age households

Around 3,000 low income households in East Devon could benefit by an estimated £270,000 in extra support towards paying their council tax in a scheme which is currently being consulted on.

But time is running out to take part in the consultation on the district council’s draft Council Tax Reduction Scheme which proposes to increase the amount of council tax support for low income working age households. Pensioners will not be affected by the proposals.
