Accountancy firm PKF Francis Clark has joined forces with charities and regulators to combat fraud targeted against charities, as part of the third Annual Charity Fraud Awareness Week (23 – 27 October 2018) #CharityFraudOut.

Fraud is the most reported crime in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics, an individual in the UK is 10 times more likely to be a victim of fraud than theft. To mark the end of the First World War Centenary, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) has launched its “Road to Peace” project. The project tells 120 personal stories of casualties who died during the final 100 days of the First World War, from 8 August to 11 November.

Metal Matters!

Metal matters and it can be endlessly recycled in to new items from cars to kettles – that’s the message that children from two East Devon primary schools have been learning over the last few weeks as part of a district-wide campaign asking residents to recycle more metal.

East Devon District Council and its partners SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, are calling on households to recycle more of their drinks cans, food tins, deodorant cans, aluminium food trays, foil and metal jar and bottle lids in their green recycling sacks which are collected every week from the kerbside.

A local house builder is helping four intrepid fundraisers make a splash by supporting a quartet of Devon hockey players who will be swapping their sticks for oars this December to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Chemotherapy for cancer patients launches in East Devon

Chemotherapy is now available in East Devon for the first time, thanks to funding from FORCE Cancer Charity.

Up until now, cancer patients have had to travel to Exeter for potentially life-saving treatment.

The new service is available to patients from across the East of the county every Friday between 9:30am and 3:30pm at Honiton Hospital.

Experienced nurses from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Cherrybrook chemotherapy unit will deliver the treatments.

Exeter Airport’s winter flight schedule brings new opportunities to do business in a sought-after location, where companies already benefit from business rate relief.
