Take care on the roads as conditions treacherous in places

Problems abound on the roads in and around Exeter this morning due to flooding. Drivers are advised to approach the A3015 Topsham Road in Countess Wear at Countess Wear Roundabout with care due to a Traffic light failure.

Drivers are also requested to take care on the A376 which is reported to be partially blocked in both directions between the A3052 junction in Clyst St Mary and the Featherbed Lane junction in Exmouth, because of flooding.

Local anger as EDDC to hear two applications for housing developments in Feniton

A newly formed East Devon campaign group is set to stage its first protest demonstration in Feniton on Saturday 23 March against "environmentally damaging new national planning regulations".

The 'funeral' march, which is being organised by the East Devon Alliance (EDA) at Feniton, will aim to draw attention to the serious problems caused in the district by the government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), now almost a year old.

£1 million to investigate epigenetic factors in schizophrenia

Scientists will investigate the role of epigenetic processes in schizophrenia, a major cause of mental illness. The £1 million research project could pave the way for revolutionary new treatments.

Professor Jonathan Mill, at the University of Exeter Medical School, will use the grant from the Medical Research Council for a three year study which could shed fresh light on the triggers for the disease.

A new taxi marshall scheme has been introduced in Exeter to help tackle crime and disorder, address anti-social behaviour and give those wishing to travel late at night an increased feeling of safety.
