More than two thirds (69%) of adults in the South West believe it is now unacceptable for parents or carers to physically punish their child, the NSPCC can reveal.
Nationally, a YouGov poll of almost 3,000 over 18s, of which 364 respondents were in the South West, commissioned by the charity, showed 68% of respondents think physically disciplining a child, for example by smacking, is not acceptable.

M&S and Barnardo’s, the children’s charity, are calling on local people to roll up their sleeves and Spark Something Good in a week of volunteering that will positively impact 24 projects at the heart of the community in Exeter and Plymouth. On Tuesday 6 September, we are calling on volunteers to help us create a bright new community space at the Barnardo’s DELL Children’s Centre in Plymouth. Local families and children have just a few more days to donate their pre-loved toys to the Argos Toy Exchange in support of children’s charity Barnardo’s, which ends on 25th November.
The Argos Toy Exchange, a fundraising initiative which kicked off in October, encourages parents and children across the county to donate unwanted toys to their local Argos or Barnardo’s store, and in return they will receive a £5.00 gift voucher to redeem when they spend £35 or more on toys at Argos up until Christmas Eve.
