TEDxExeter to reach even more people thanks to local sponsors

TEDxExeter aims to more than double its reach this year thanks to the loyal support of existing sponsors, and new organisations who have come on board. Their sponsorship means that many more people will be able to see some of the world’s best thinkers share their ground-breaking work and ideas.

Now in its fifth year, TEDxExeter will take place on Friday 15 April at the Exeter Northcott Theatre with a simultaneous livestream to the nearby Alumni Auditorium. Tickets for both these events are now sold out, but there are still opportunities for people to get involved.

Old Mill to sponsor CHSW £50 challenge

West Country accountants and financial planners Old Mill are sponsoring Children’s Hospice South West’s 2016 £50 challenge in a bid to raise £25,000 for the North Devon based charity.

The £50 Challenge is an annual event where local businesses compete against each other to turn a £50 start-up investment into as much money as they can over a three month time frame, with all money raised going directly to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Devon Delivers launches Business Promotion Grant

Businesses across Devon are being invited to apply for a grant to help them reach new audiences.

Devon Delivers, the County Council programme which aims to encourage businesses to relocate to Devon, has launched its Business Promotion Grant to help companies promote their goods or services to national and international trade audiences.

Grants of up to £1,000 are being offered through a competitive bidding process.

The funding will support eligible businesses to cover direct exhibiting costs of attending trade shows or events between February and December this year....

Quarterly Economic Survey results for Devon indicate resilience in manufacturing sector

The British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) results for Q4 2015, released on Thursday 7 January, indicate slower economic growth in the short term. The QES, Britain’s largest and most authoritative private sector business survey, based on almost 7,500 responses from companies, shows that most key manufacturing and services balances were weaker this quarter, but nationally manufacturing firms faired worse.

Visit South Devon has announced the appointment of Sarah Stride as acting general manager for the next 12 months. Sarah takes over the post from Stephanie Cherrett, who is taking adoption leave for the coming year.

Lidl UK’s decision to locate a major regional distribution centre at a site near Exeter Airport is a huge vote of confidence in the area and will prompt other national retailers to follow in its footsteps, says property advisors JLL.

Fast Track to Growth Programme launched for Devon firms

Companies across Devon are being offered the chance to take part in the county’s first Fast Track to Growth Programme to help them develop and implement plans for growth in 2016 – for free.

They will receive on-going advice from a range of specialists, and take part in workshops to develop their growth plans ready to then implement. Private sector ends 2015 on a positive note

The South West private sector economy ended 2015 on a positive note, according to December PMI® survey data. Output growth accelerated from November’s subdued pace to the strongest since July, while new business rose at the fastest rate since June.

Moreover, backlogs grew for the first time in seven months, and at the sharpest pace since January 2015. Firms continued to expand their workforces and reported higher input prices for the first time in five months, leading them to raise their own charges.

Charity thanks local firm for help with 'Christmas in a Box' campaign

National charity Samaritan’s Purse has extended its thanks to the local Regus centres at Southernhay Gardens and Exeter Business Park in Exeter, for their efforts towards collecting thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes which have since been distributed to needy and vulnerable children across the world.

Lidl is set to buy Sainsbury's land holding at Clyst Honiton near Exeter with the potential to create hundreds of jobs for local people.
