The Exeter Chiefs Foundation has donated £10,000 to local charity Veterans With Dogs to enable it to purchase a dedicated vehicle. The fully branded van was unveiled at a launch attended by Trustees Marc Astley and Keiron Northcott from the Exeter Chiefs Foundation and Craig MacLellan, chief executive of Veterans With Dogs.

H&W’s guests help raise thousands for local charities

Hall & Woodhouse (H&W), the leading independent family-owned brewer, has raised over £9,000 this summer through its charity dish initiative and Unlock’d lager campaign, in aid of local charities across the south.

The 52 pubs in H&W’s managed house estate have included a charity dish on the menu since re-opening to the public after the nationwide lockdown in July. Over £5,000 has been raised through the sale of honey-roast ham this summer, with 25p from each purchase going to the pub’s chosen charity.

A Devon dad is running 100-miles over 10 weeks for charity, taking his 9-month-old son Arthur along for the ride in his buggy.

Ian Chown, from Ottery-St-Mary has already travelled 86.9 miles with Arthur in tow and plans to complete the running challenge this weekend with his final run to hit 100 miles. He has already raised over £950 of his £1000 target for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal.

A seven-strong team of hospice staff will be taking part in a brand new virtual event in October.

‘Team Hospiscare’, who all work for the local charity, will be completing a Marathon in a Month as part of the charity’s new virtual challenge event.

Since the national lockdown in March, Hospiscare’s fundraising efforts have been drastically impacted due to the closure of its charity shops and cancellation of events. The charity faces a loss of over £1 million this financial year.

Trainee guide dogs go back to school in Exeter

After a three-month break due to the Covid-19 outbreak, trainee guide dogs have been able to re-start their training in the south west, getting them ready to become life-changing guides.

In March, sight loss charity Guide Dogs closed its local training teams in line with Government advice, which meant around 55 trainee guide dogs across the region had to take a break.

The dogs were boarded full-time with local volunteers and all training with the local community team, based in Marsh Barton, was stopped.
