Supporters are ‘stepping up’ to help raise funds for the lifesaving service thisMarch, just by going about their daily life.

Devon Air Ambulance’s (DAA) latest virtual event invites supporters to complete a 300,000-steps challenge throughout the month of March in aid of the life-savingservice.

300,000 steps are just shy of the recommended 10,000 steps a day for a moderately active adult (equivalent to around 5 miles per day). They can be clocked up at home or while out and about in the local area, alone or as part of a bubble.

Leading housebuilders donate £5,000 to children's charities in Devon

Leading housebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes have donated £5,000 to five charities which support disadvantaged children in Devon and Cornwall.

The first charity to receive a £1,000 donation is Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon which supports parents and families from all backgrounds or situations, such as those struggling with mental health issues or with children with disabilities. West Country house builder supports disadvantaged young people with £1,000 donation

West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has kick-started 2021 by donating £1,000 to the William Wates Memorial Trust.

Announcing its charity partnership with the Trust in 2020, the first £1,000 has been raised through Devonshire Homes’ open-market sales and in-house fundraising events. Devonshire Homes will continue to donate £50 to the charity for every open-market sale during 2021.

Exeter couple take on walk in memory of their parents

TWO actors whose parents died from cancer have decided to put on their walking boots and support Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraising campaign.

Josie Kemp and Lauren Soley, both 26, are supporting Walk All Over in March to support the charity’s life-saving research. The charity is encouraging people to get sponsored to walk 10,000 steps every day.

The couple though are determined to walk 100 miles of the Jurassic Coast in March and go that extra to make a difference. Lauren and Josie have been together almost 4 years and met as actors in Les Misérables in The West End...

Aldi donates 6,300 meals to Devon's charities over the festive period

Charities in Devon have helped Aldi donate around 6,300 meals to people in need this Christmas Eve.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and food banks to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on 24th December.

Around 210 tonnes of food were donated throughout the UK, with more than 500,000 meals donated and more than 750 UK causes benefitting from the initiative in total.

Happy Christmas to Hospiscare as Ottery fundraiser smashes target

The fundraising target for Rusty Pig’s ‘Ho Ho Hospiscare’ draw was totally smashed after the local community in Ottery St Mary and surrounding villages showed support for the event.

The initial aim was to raise £500 but by the night of the draw the total had reached £2300. And there was an extra surprise to come with and additional donation of an extra £250 from PASC, an organisation providing support for self-catering businesses, bringing the final total to an amazing £2,550 - equating to a whopping 400 percent increase!

A Devon charity is launching a pilot ‘Listening Ear’ service to provide a safe space for Devon business owners to chat about the challenges of running a business during a pandemic.
