Make 'Walk All Over Cancer' your New Year resolution

People in the South West are being challenged to kick start the New Year by taking steps to support Cancer Research UK.

The charity is encouraging everybody who feels they’ve had too many mince pies or helpings of Christmas pudding to sign up now to Walk All Over Cancer and get sponsored to walk 10,000 steps every day for a month.

In the South West, almost a quarter (22 per cent) of people are getting less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week.

Guide Dogs Exeter Fundraising group praised for reaching £13,000 milestone

Local fundraisers in Exeter have won recognition for reaching the 13,000 milestone that funds a Guide Dog partnership twice in one year. Earlier this year the Exeter & District Fundraising Group funded guide dog Winter to help a person with sight loss, and now they’ve done it again with guide dog Gucci.

As a result of reaching the £13,000 milestone, the group have been able to fund a working partnership between guide dog Gucci and a person with sight loss.

Tesco donates thousands of pounds to support Exmouth’s lifeboat

Exmouth Lifeboat Station has received a £4,000 grant from Tesco to support it in its lifesaving work.

The station was established more than 200 years ago, with a new station and boathouse created in 2010. The crews have been awarded seven medals for gallantry.

Exmouth’s fundraising branch of the RNLI received the funding from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme, enabling it to continue saving lives at sea.

Ben Black, fundraising manager, said: “We’re very grateful to Tesco for this money. We rely on donations so we can continue saving lives at sea 365 days a year.

RGB launches last Community Fund for 2019

Through its Well Built Community Fund, RGB Building Supplies has already donated £5,000 for groups, charities and schools to spend at its branches this year. It has one last giveaway for 2019 and is calling for nominations for the chance to win £1,000 to purchase building materials or tools.

RGB's Community Fund aims to help groups complete much-needed projects that they would not otherwise be able to.

Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants has presented Devon Air Ambulance with a cheque for £691. The donation brings the total the firm has raised for the charity over the last 15 years to £5,641.

Terminal illness charity Marie Curie urgently needs volunteers in Exeter on Thursday (19th). The charity is asking locals to volunteer just two hours of their time for a local supermarket collection.

Ottery coffee shop Tickety-Boo has pledged to raise more funds for its chosen charity Exeter Leukaemia Fund with a special ‘mince pie week’.
