Celestial archway of stars creates Christmas sparkle at Knightshayes

A glimmering archway of golden stars, hand-moulded by hundreds of visitors to Knightshayes, has been created as an art installation heralding the start of the festive season at the National Trust property near Tiverton.

Visitors will be able to walk through a glistening archway from the Gothic house into its Victorian conservatory, looking up to see a star-studded ceiling twinkling with decorations made by children and adults who visited Knightshayes during October half-term. Topsham’s residents and visitors don’t have to wait until December 25 to enjoy a wonderful day - there are plenty of them happening in the next few weeks as the beautiful estuary town becomes a Christmas haven for all the family.

Volunteers needed in Exeter for Christmas food collection

Leading charities the Trussell Trust and FareShare are appealing to people in Exeter to volunteer to help in the UK’s biggest food collection for people in need.

From 21-23 November, the two charities will be collecting food in Exeter’s Tesco stores during the annual Tesco Food Collection. They are looking for local volunteers to encourage shoppers to donate so that as much food as possible can be collected.

Darts Farm Santa's Grotto raises funds for Hospiscare

One of the highlights of the festive period is a visit to Father Christmas. Last month, Father Christmas was stationed at Darts Farm throughout December in his magical grotto raising a fantastic £2,385.40 for local charity, Hospiscare. Each visitor paid £5 to visit Father Christmas and was presented with a Darts Farm goodie bag.

Hospiscare vans and volunteers were out in force last weekend collecting over 500 Christmas Trees across the city.

Exeter residents were able to have their tree collected in exchange for a donation and the initiative raised over £5,000 for the local charity that cares for people who have been given a terminal diagnosis.

Louise Beeken, Head of Fundraising said: “It costs £21,000 a day to run Hospiscare services, caring for people at the end of their life in their homes or at the hospice. We raise this through the generous donations and gifts in wills of the local community....
