Exeter-based hairdressing, barbering & beauty training salon, Hair At The Academy (HATA), is spearheading a new community pilot project to support and educate vulnerable young people and adults in the city and across Devon.

Exploring the Exe Estuary with Tidelines community project

A new community project designed to celebrate and explore the Exe Estuary and coast, has been launched.

The project, called Tidelines and run in partnership with the University of Exeter, brings together arts, science, local knowledge and academic research to engage local members of the community with the estuary.

Project coordinators Jo Salter and Anne-Marie Culhane, will create a Community Hub to foster collaborative research between Exe estuary residents, students and researchers, to inspire new ideas to make a direct and positive impact on the local area.

Big boost for Pinhoe community project

New homes being built for people in Exeter are set to help generate £100,000 for a community project in Pinhoe.

A report is to come before councillors at Exeter City Council next month recommending £100,000 of funds are allocated to support the development of Pinhole Community Hub.

Pinhoe has been the subject to major new housing developments and the funding comes from New Homes Bonus, money paid to councils by central government for creating and freeing up homes for people to live in.

Portland Street Advent Project

I once made friends with a lady on our street based on a conversation about what we had hanging in our windows so when I heard about a successful Advent window project that takes place in Derby each December I jumped at the chance to make it happen in our street. Portland street in Newtown, Exeter lends itself to a project like this as it is a long Victorian terrace with over a hundred houses.

My husband Steve and I run a design and marketing agency, Sfimedia Ltd, from our home in Portland Street and creativity and community spirit have always been important factors in our lives...

Portland Street Advent Project

This December design and marketing agency sfimedia Ltd have turned Portland Street in Exeter into a giant Advent calendar.

Each day one and sometimes two new window displays will be revealed by residents in the street. The very last window is in The Globe facing Portland Street on Christmas Eve.

Bring your children and walk down the street to see how everyone has joined together as a community and used their imagination to create seasonal scenes.
