Callington and Afghans win Exeter City Community Tournament

Callington and fghan United were the winners in Exeter City’s community football tournament held on Sunday (3 July). Nearly 200 local players took part.

Callington won the Women’s competition, winning every match they played. They beat Tedburn St Mary based Inter M’Ladies 5-1 in the final. In the semi finals Callington defeated the All Blacks from South Devon 2-1 and Inter edged out Buckland, also by 2-1. A dedicated website has launched that makes it quick and easy for members of the Armed Forces Community in Devon to access key services including health, financial and welfare.

Exeter City to hold community football tournament

Exeter City Football Club will once again celebrate local diversity by holding a community football tournament on Sunday 3 July. Both male and female teams will compete for trophies. The 6 a side competition has been organised by Exeter City Supporters Trust’s One Game One Community Group and Exeter City’s Football in the Community team.

An informal summer service of celebration that has been held in Chudleigh for many years. Originally tied in with the Carnival, the service is organised by members of the Baptist and Parish Church congregations. Archaeologists lead community dig on lost Dartmoor Manor

From Monday 27 June until Saturday 2 July 2016 archaeologists will be returning to the site of North Hall Manor in Widecombe-in-the-Moor to continue investigations into this intriguing site.

This will be the third season of excavation. The first phase in 2012 targeted the medieval manor site and revealed wall footings, boundary works and pottery that strongly suggest a high status medieval building once stood in the area.

The excavation this year will continue to investigate some of the features unearthed in previous digs with the hope of finding out more about their age...

£1,000 fund open for community centres

Following the relaunch of RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund in April, the builders merchant is now calling for community centres and village halls in the Exeter area to get in contact and tell them how £1,000 worth of building materials would be of help.

Centres and village halls are at the heart of local communities being used for anything from a parent and toddler group and Yoga class to a local meeting and wedding reception, so whatever a venue’s needs, RGB would like to hear about it.

Great grant news for Topsham Outdoor Pool

The volunteer committee which runs the outdoor swimming pool in Topsham was delighted to hear today that the pool will be receiving a grant of £25,000 from the Coastal Recycling Community Fund.

The grant will go a long way towards funding a new roof and solar heating for the community pool, which launched its campaign to raise £100,000 for much needed renovations at the beginning of this season.

Coastal Recycling Community Fund donates £55k to Devon organisations

Coastal Recycling has awarded seven community grants, totalling £55,650, to organisations across Devon who aim to enhance community spaces, improve biodiversity, cultural facilities and places for outdoor recreation.

The grant funding, administered by national charity GrantScape, will support a variety of projects, including improving access at Exeter’s brain charity Headway, a brand new clubhouse facility for Bideford BMX and renewable energy heating for Topsham Community Pool.
