CLIC for Christmas 2016

Following the phenomenal success of the concert last Christmas which raised nearly £10,000 for CLIC Sargent, on Friday 9th December, La La Choirs will again perform ‘CLIC for Christmas’ at Exeter Cathedral.

For the second year, the event includes running a Devon-wide secondary school choir competition with the winning school choir claiming a featured spot in the concert on the night. Entries were invited from secondary schools all over Devon. The standard of entries was excellent and the panel had a tough job whittling them down to the three finalists.

Jubilee Singers: Coffee Concert at Southernhay Church

The Jubilee Singers present a 'coffee concert' at Southernhay Church on Saturday 15th December. Coffee will be served fropm 10.30am and the music will beging around 11.15. The programme will include carols old and new.

The concert is in aid of the improvements to the building which the church has now begun, starting with an access ramp to Southernhay Hall in Southernhay East. Admission is free but you are invited to make a donation to the Church Buildings Appeal.

The Jubilee Singers are based in Broadclyst and are directed by John Scarfe.

Glorious Majesty – Music for a Royal Occasion

Clyst Valley Choral Society’s autumn concert will be a musical celebration of royal occasions past and present with music from weddings, coronations and jubilees.

Amongst the items will be Handel’s Zadok the Priest, I Was Glad by Parry and others, and Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens (as performed at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding).

The concert will be performed on Saturday 24th November at St Margaret’s Church, Topsham at 7.30pm and on Sunday 25th November at Holy Trinity Church, Exmouth at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £7 from Topsham Books or £8 on the door.

Crediton Christmas Tree Festival 2012

Crediton's Christmas Tree Festival takes place from Thursday 6th December to Sunday 9th December.

This year 72 decorated and illuminated trees will fill the church. There will be tours of the church, stalls, an exhibition of photos taken by members of Crediton Photography Club and refreshments in the nearby Boniface Centre.

Opening hours are 11am-6pm Thursday and Friday, 10.30am-7pm Saturday and 2pm-5pm Sunday and admission is free.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at The Great Hall

Vaughan Williams' tribute to Tallis calls for a large string orchestra divided into three parts: the full string choir, a single desk from each section and a solo string quartet. The Tallis melody "Why fum'th in fight the Gentiles spite, in fury raging stout?" is one of nine included in the Psalter of 1567 for the first Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury. The theme is heard in its complete form three times and serves as the source for a wonderful miasma of variants and developments in this rich orchestral composition.
