Exeter Santa Run returns to the CITY centre

PLACES are selling fast for one of Exeter’s most fun festive events – the city centre Santa Run.

And Exeter City FC defender Pierce Sweeney has donned a Santa hat to give his backing to the event.

Around 600 people are expected to put on Santa suits and run either the 2.5k or 5k route around the centre of Exeter on Sunday, December 3.

The event, which starts in Princesshay, has been organised by the CITY Community Trust. It has been sponsored by Galliford Try and Exeter BID.

Record breaking rainfall in December puts 2015 in the top ten wettest years on records going back to 1910

Latest early provisional statistics from the Met Office confirm December has been record breaking both for its warmth and rainfall.

The UK mean temperature (1-29 December) is a record breaking 8.0 °C which is 4.1 °C above the long-term average. The previous record was 6.9 °C in 1934.

This anomaly of +4.1 above the long term average is the highest such anomaly for any calendar month since 1910 - beating the previous record which was +3.3 °C above average in April...

SW private sector output continues to rise

Private sector output in the South West of England continued to rise at a strong rate in December, according to PMI® survey data.

Growth was supported by higher new business volumes and the level of incomplete work continued to rise, despite a further robust round of job creation. That said, the rate of growth in new orders eased to the slowest in 19 months. In line with the broad UK trend, inflationary pressures remained relatively muted.

YMCA Exeter's Santa abseil breaks record

YMCA Exeter’s 5th Annual Santa Abseil took place on Saturday 6th December with almost 60 local people, young and old, abseiling off the Princesshay car park to help combat youth homelessness.

Fifty-seven people put on their Santa suits, an increase of over 20 participants from last year, and overcame the dizzy heights to step over the roof’s edge and raise over £4,000 to support those without safe accommodation, with the figure still rising.

The students and staff of Exeter University will be putting on their annual Christmas craft fair tomorrow (Friday 6th December) in the Forum building, from 12-4pm.

True to a well known carol, the weather outside has been frightful this December, but come hail, sleet or snow, Exeter's premiere Christmas Market has proved to be a roaring success.

Christmas Service of Light at East Devon Crematorium

A Christmas Service of Light, to celebrate the lives and memories of loved ones is being held at the East Devon Crematorium on Saturday 8th December 2012 at 2pm.
