Cancer Research UK welcomes action on tobacco packaging

Plain, standardised tobacco packaging is a step closer to being introduced to the UK after the Government announced they will proceed with a vote on the issue.

Cancer Research UK has welcomed the move which now allows a vote in the Commons.

The move would make brightly coloured and slickly designed packs illegal, with all packs becoming uniform in size, shape and design with large picture health warnings.

Simply Be and Jacamo to create 30 new jobs in Exeter

Fashion retailers Simply Be and Jacamo, part of multi-channel retailer N Brown Group PLC, are coming to Exeter this spring.

Opening on the High Street in March,the dual-facia Simply Be and Jacamo 7,470 sq ft store will create 30 new jobs and will provide a selection of men’s and women’s fashion.

Unemployment continues to fall in Devon

The number of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon has once again fallen during December (in line with the national trend), reaching a new lowest figure on record.

Total claimants now stand at 3,998, 21 claimants fewer than in November (a 0.5% month on month drop). Whilst the fall is lower than the UK average of 2.9%, as a proportion of the working age population, Devon remains far lower at 0.9%, compared to the UK at 2%.

Tributes to man killed in Colyton collision

A man who died in a collision in Colyton has been named as Richard Daniel Manley, aged 43.

Richard grew up in Plymouth, but has lately been living in Seaton with his young family.

Richard was described by his family as loving father, brother and son who was very proud of his time serving in 26 Royal Engineers. He was always willing to help anyone in need and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was a genuinely good guy, with a heart of gold who will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
