Over-85s are UK's fastest growing age group

Today Age UK launched a definitive report into the lives and health of people over 85, the fastest growing demographic group in the UK redefining the frontiers of human existence.

People over the age of 85 are now the fastest growing demographic group in the UK. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates there are currently 1.5 million people in the UK over the age of 85; by 2050 this will have grown to 5 million.

But in spite of the size of this social group, to date there has been a lack of comprehensive information about them.

Four teeagers led to safety during Ten Tors training

Four teenagers have been found safe and well after they became separated from the adults they were with while training for Ten Tors. The alarm was raised at 7.45pm on Saturday 9 March 2013 when the missing youngsters rang the police, but were unable to give their exact location. Apprenticeships forecast to contribute £3.4BN to the economy by 2022

Apprenticeship completions over the next decade are forecast to contribute £3.4 billion a year to the economy through productivity gains by 2022. People only have a few days left to take advantage of Exeter's energy-switching scheme, Exeter Together, and make savings on their energy bills. The scheme closes at midnight on Sunday 17 March.

Sudden death of 21-year-old woman in Plymouth

Shortly after 7am on Sunday 10 March 2013, police attended an address in Randolph Close, Plymouth. A 21-year-old female named Jenny Launder was found dead at the address.

A forensic post mortem has been completed due to the nature of the scene. The initial findings of the post mortem would indicate that the death is no longer deemed as suspicious albeit the investigation is continuing jointly with HM Coroner.

New bridge is instant hit with cyclists and walkers

The recently completed Town Quay Bridge linking Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton is already proving popular.

Almost 3,000 cycling trips have been made over the bridge since it opened to the public just under a month ago, with 1,300 of those in the first week.

The bridge and the section of the Teign Estuary Trail were officially opened by Devon County Council Chairman Jerry Brook and Sustrans’ South West Regional Director Adrian Roper at a special ceremony today (Friday 8 March).

Exeter kept up their challenge for top spot in the Devon RFU Colts Shield competition hosting Brixham at Withycombe RFC. This season the boys have been rewarded with kit sponsorship from Astley Media, who have kindly provided warm up tops and playing shorts and socks.
