Teignmouth flood alleviation scheme to officially open Friday

The recently completed tidal flood defences designed to protect the back beach and town centre areas of Teignmouth will be officially opened on Friday 2nd November, 2012, at 3pm.

The £4 million flood alleviation scheme will be opened by James Morrish, Chairman of the South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee, James McMurray, the Mayor of Teignmouth and Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris.

World Stroke Day highlights the importance of recognising TIA signs

Thousands of people are at risk of stroke because they fail to recognise the signs of a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA, also known as mini-stroke), according to the findings of a new poll(i) launched today on World Stroke Day (29th October 2012).

A Stroke Association survey of over 183 members of the public in the South West, conducted by ICM Research, revealed that:

  • Over two thirds (68%) of people did not recognise the symptoms of a TIA, with over a quarter (29%) believing they were symptoms of a heart attack.

Exeter College snapshots are cream of the crop

Three college students are anxiously waiting to hear if they have scooped the first prize in a national photography competition set up to capture the start of the college year and organised by the national FE Week newspaper.

The three students – Gloria Munson, 16, from Totnes, Katherine Hardiman, 16, from Crediton and Catherine Turner, 16, from Winkleigh are already celebrating being the cream of the crop having been shortlisted in the last 11 from the overall 300 entries that swamped the FE week offices earlier in the month.

Following a successful invasion last year , another horde of Zombies invaded Exeter today. Exeter Scientists key to creating one of UK's greenest schools

Scientists at the University of Exeter have been heavily involved in developing a school which is in the national top ten for energy efficiency.

Experts at the University of Exeter’s Centre for Energy and the Environment have been studying the first year of operation of Montgomery Primary School in St Thomas, Exeter.

They say the school uses less than a third of the energy of a typical school, which puts it in the top 10 per cent of schools nationally for energy efficiency.

Around 160 Exeter College higher education students took to the streets today (26th October) as they donned their caps and gowns to process through the city for their Graduation Ceremony, held at Exeter Cathedral at 2.30pm.
