Knightshayes calls for help to make hundreds of stars for celestial Christmas art installation

The public are being asked to help make over 500 starry Christmas decorations at Knightshayes, near Tiverton, which will be strung together to make a one large celestially-inspired Christmas art installation for all to see at the National Trust property. It’s all to celebrate that the ornate and Gothic ceilings at the Devon property have inspired much of the National Trust’s Christmas collection this year, with motifs from the ceiling adorning many items being sold in the charitiy’s shops across the UK.

Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden launches new Centre for Entrepreneurship 

Dragons’ Den star and businesswoman Deborah Meaden has helped launched the University of Exeter’s new Centre for Entrepreneurship.

The centre will help create the next generation of start-up founders and innovators who will thrive in the fourth industrial revolution. It will help people start meaningful ventures which improve society and their communities, with their work informed by research from the centre’s experts.

The centre builds on the work already ongoing at the University of Exeter to encourage student entrepreneurship, including the Student Startup Team.

Devon engineer recognised as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Engineering

Katy Toms, a senior engineer at WSP Exeter and Chair of the board of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West, has been announced as one of the top 100 Most Influential Women in the engineering sector.

The list, produced by board appointments firm, Inclusive Boards, in partnership with the Financial Times, will be officially released at the Inclusive Boards: Women in Engineering Leadership Conference on October 22nd.

Darts Farm continues to raise funds for local charities

During the summer months Darts Farm is renowned for its vibrant yellow fields of pick-your-own sunflowers and it’s superb ‘Maize Maze’. The beautiful flowers have raised a total of £5,034 this year for Darts Farm chosen charity, Hospiscare and the ‘Maize Maze’; a maze that’s constructed entirely out of the maize crop grown in the Darts Farm field, has raised a total of £3,061 for local charity ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund).

Housebuilder colleagues smash charity target in memory of Dean - one year on from race tragedy

Colleagues at a national housebuilder have smashed their charity target after running the Cardiff Half Marathon this month, in memory of 32-year-old Dean Fletcher, who tragically died last year at the event.

The husband and father - a management accountant at Bovis Homes’ South West region - suffered a cardiac arrest after completing the course last October.

Tickets to be launched for sell-out ideas festival

Organisers of TEDxExeter, the South West’s leading ideas festival, have announced that tickets for TEDxExeter 2020 are soon to be released for sale. Devon appeals for adopters to come forward as number of children waiting increases

Adoption agencies in Devon are working together this National Adoption Week (14-20 October) to appeal for potential adopters to come forward. This comes as numbers of adopters drop to an all-time low in the county and the number of children waiting continues to grow.

Regional Adoption Agency, Adopt South West, and independent adoption charity Families for Children are specifically looking for adopters who will consider adopting a sibling group. If adoptive families cannot be found soon then it is likely that these brothers and sisters will be separated.
