Unique pilot programme reducing waiting list for spinal surgery in Devon

The NHS in Devon has reduced the number of patients waiting a long time for spinal surgery by nearly 80% between May 2023 and January 2024 by revolutionising the approach to caring for patients.

The number of patients in Devon waiting 78 weeks or more for spinal surgical treatment was 31 at the end of January 2024. This is 79% lower than May 2023 when that number stood at 131.

Schools and junior rugby clubs in Devon have the opportunity to win free specialist training equipment provided by the same company that supplies some of the leading nations and clubs in the world.

New bridge over A379 opens

The impressive new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the A379 is open for use.

The 36-metre span bridge, which was lifted into place last summer, has been constructed as part of the ongoing South West Exeter development .

Acorn T-Stats has been awarded the contract to develop a ‘Data Hub’ for the tourism and wider visitor economy in Devon and Somerset. Gas emergency and pipeline service Wales & West Utilities has extended its partnership with Westbank Community Health and Care (Westbank) to donate 100 ‘warm bags’ which will now be distributed through its recently launched Warmwell at Home initiative.

Walk and Talk is a new initiative in Devon and Cornwall asking women aged 18 and over: “Is there a place you feel unsafe? Take us there”.

Devon & Cornwall Police will be linking up with women in person to understand more about what our region looks like and feels like, seeking to understand more through first-hand experience about the places and spaces where women feel unsafe.
