Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon to merge

Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon have today announced that they will be merging to create a new super Area Tourism Partnership (ATP).

Economies of scale resulting from the merger will give the expanded Area Tourism Partnership a larger overall marketing budget, which will be used to increase the number of day visits, short breaks, longer holidays and business trips to Mid Devon, East Devon, Exeter and its city surrounds, Teignbridge and South Hams.

Councils meet to discuss future of Port Royal

Since the beginning of the year, informal discussions have been held between Sidmouth Town Council (STC) and East Devon District Council (EDDC) on carrying out a scoping exercise as the first stage in the process of development and renewal of Sidmouth’s Port Royal and Eastern Town. Teignbridge, East Devon District Councils and Exeter City Council have joined together to form a new cross-boundary partnership that works across the three authority areas to protect three internationally important conservation sites.

The three councils have established the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee, a partnership helping to protect places such as the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren and the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths for future generations to enjoy.

Exmouth’s Manor Gardens will be the setting for an open air production of Canterbury Tales, performed by The Pantaloons theatre company on Wednesday 10 August.

Work on preliminary designs for a new bridge further inland from Alma Bridge in Sidmouth is continuing, Devon County Council has confirmed.

New fly tipping powers approved by East Devon’s Cabinet

New powers to crack down on fly tippers who blight areas of East Devon have been approved by the district council’s Cabinet.

It means that offenders who irresponsibly fly tip their waste, can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £400. The new controls will be used by council officers to deal with small, medium and large fly tipping offences by householders or unauthorised “man and a van” operations.
