Huge pay gap between east and west of SW region

There is a huge pay gap between workers living in the East and West of the South West region, with the people living in the East amongst the best paid in the country, earning up to £12,500 more than those living in the West, where earnings are well below the national average.

That is one of the findings of the ManpowerGroup Pay League, a series of local insights into UK pay trends from ManpowerGroup, the world leader in innovative workforce solutions. ManpowerGroup’s analysis is based on the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings from the Office of National Statistics.

Wellness programme improves Landmark’s employees’ attitudes to diet and exercise

A survey of employees undertaken by Landmark Information Group to measure the impact of a genetically-guided corporate wellness programme, just six months after being the world’s first company to do so, has revealed significant changes both in awareness and attitude to diet and exercise.

Small firms should prepare for auto-enrolment

Small businesses across the South West are being advised to prepare themselves for pensions auto-enrolment says ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). Figures show that there are 513,000 companies across the region that are classed as being a small or medium sized business.

The government reaffirmed their commitment to auto-enrolment (AE) in the June 2010 budget. The rollout has been phased so that larger companies were required to bring the scheme earlier, this started in 2012. Throughout 2015 the scheme will be extended to cover smaller businesses. Official...
