Voters in Exeter will be able to vote for the Women’s Equality Party (WEP) for the first time on 3 May.

Former British diplomat Bea Gare is standing in Duryard and St James, a ward she first became familiar with as a PhD student at the University of Exeter.

Public consultation on Exeter's Air Quality Action Plan underway

Consultation on draft measures in the plan to improve air quality and cut traffic congestion in the city will last for three months.

Residents, commuters and visitors are being urged to complete an online survey on the council's website.

Some people may also be asked to take part in representative, face-to-face surveys, and a number of focus groups will also be set up.

A major public consultation event will take place at Exeter's Guildhall on Tuesday, March 13, from 8am to 8pm.

The future looks bright for job seekers in Exeter and further afield following the success of a recent job fair in the city. More than 1,800 job seekers attended the Exeter Jobs Fair in September at Exeter Corn Exchange, with some people travelling from as far as Cardiff, Somerset and Plymouth. A public consultation is set to be launched on ways to improve air quality and cut congestion in Exeter. The Draft Exeter City Council Air Quality Action Plan 2018-2023 contains a wide range of proposals to reduce exposure to air pollution and improve health and quality of life.

There’s a new interactive way to report graffiti in the city. The new updated system speeds up the reporting of graffiti and gives the public ongoing progress updates. The City Council cleans off for free any graffiti from private homes provided the owners sign a disclaimer form. The new system allows for real-time alerts to be sent directly to the clean-up teams, allowing them to prioritise and email customers to inform them that the job is complete. Business as usual on the Quay as canons return

Businesses on Exeter’s historic Quay are reminding people that the area is still open for business despite ongoing building work being carried out. Work on the multi-million pound Flood Defence Scheme has been going on at the Quay for some time now but for the shops, restaurants, bars and attractions down by the waterside it’s still business as usual. Good news as emergency beds provide refuge for rough sleepers this winter

Extra bed spaces have been made available for rough sleepers in Exeter over the winter period, the City Council has announced. The 15 extra emergency beds will be provided at Gabriel House in the city centre as part the City Council’s response to providing emergency accommodation and bringing rough sleepers inside during the harshest winter weather. New equipment at Exeter skate park

There’s good news for skate fans with new, temporary equipment installed at Exeter Arena Skate Park.

Work is ongoing but some of the ramps will be available to use this weekend.

Exeter City Council is carrying out the work with Tim Ruck of the Boarding House. When finished the facility will include:

• A flat spine • Wall ride • Grind block • Sub box

Local BMX riders have contributed a flat rail to the park.

Recently the City Council was forced to break up the old skate park on the same site after the equipment had become rotten and dangerous....

Private tenants urged to take part in Exeter survey

People who rent private properties in Exeter are being encouraged to take part in a survey. Everyone who takes part will be entered into a draw to win a £50 High Street voucher.

In Exeter, 22% of people live in private rented homes, which is above the national average.

A number of local agencies receive high numbers of complaints about local letting agents and this has led to a survey being compiled to gain an insight into the true extent of the problem.
