Struggling Plymouth Argyle sack Carl Fletcher

Exeter City rivals Plymouth Argyle have sacked manager Carl Fletcher after 16 months in charge of the struggling League Two side.

Argyle are only two points clear of the relegation zone after losing 2-1 at home to John Ward's Bristol Rovers. Ward was set to become Argyle director of football just three weeks ago, until being offered the job as Rovers boss.

Former Argyle and Wales midfielder, Fletcher, 32, initially took over as caretaker after Peter Reid's sacking in September 2011. In his post-match interview with BBC Radio Devon, he revealed: "[Owner] James Brent has just...

A 97th-minute equaliser by Andy Iro gave Barnet an unlikely point at St James Park, by stealing a 2-2 draw from Exeter City.

First-half goals by Danny Coles and Scot Bennett put City in a commanding position at the break, which arguably could have been even more comfortable.

The City fans had to endure a nervous final 15 minutes – and an extra added seven – after Jon Nurse managed to squeeze in an effort in the second half.

And the unthinkable happened in the final throes as Iro snuck in his effort on the turn, to deny City what could have been a comfortable win....

Exeter City boss reflects on derby day draw

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale applauded his players for the way they performed during the 1-1 draw against Plymouth in the Devon Derby at St James Park.

Liam Sercombe hit an opener in the first half following a spell of bright play by City. However Argyle began to exert pressure after half-time and Tis was happy with the spirit the team showed after being pegged back by Joe Lennox in an emotive derby.

“It was the sort of game we expected really,” said Tisdale. “It was high-tempo, slippery and not much passing. The game was probably going to come down to mistakes or...

Exeter City exorcised the demons of last April by running out 3-2 winners against Rochdale at Spotland.

After an even opening encounter, quick-fire goals by Pat Baldwin and John O’Flynn suddenly put the Grecians in the driving seat. A second before the break for O’Flynn gave Exeter a three-goal cushion at half-time. Terry Gornell netted for the Dale midway through the second period to make things twitchy. Gornell then headed in a second on the stroke of 90 minutes, with the Grecians living dangerously. His afternoon came to an early end though when he was shown a straight red soon...

St James’ Park will be hosting the Exeter City Ladies’ FA Women’s Cup first round proper tie against Brislington on Sunday 9th December with kick-off set for 1pm.

This fixture offers the Grecian girls the chance to progress to the second round for the first time in their history.

They reached the first round last season, only to be defeated away at Swindon. But they have been drawn at home to Somerset County Division One side Brislington – and rather than playing at their usual home in Topsham, the Exeter Ladies have the chance to showcase the women’s game at St James’ Park...
