A new poster campaign has been launched to tackle begging in Exeter.

The campaign highlights the dangers of giving cash to beggars and instead promotes donations to an alternative giving scheme, providing additional funding to projects that help those in need.

The campaign, which is run by a partnership of Exeter City Council, Devon and Cornwall Police and several local drugs and homeless support agencies, also draws a link between drugs abuse and money provided by begging.

Council Leader Pete Edwards said: “We just want to get this message across that it’s better...

Amazing news! ECI and Exeter Community Bikes has been chosen by the Big Give to take part in its Christmas Challenge. The Challenge is a 7-day donation extravaganza. Every donation is doubled. We have a target of £3,000, so we could get £6,000 for Exeter Community Bikes!

First we need to raise £1,500 in pledges between now and 11 October. Pledges are used to match the online donations. The minimum pledge is £100. Please spread the word far and wide and ask people to pledge to support our project.

The Exeter Urban Farm is going to be a reality soon! We've just signed the licence to use 188 Sidwell Street above QS. Land Securities have been amazing and we're now in the position to get cracking. We need support from a local business.

We will be refitting the space with the necessary equipment and structure to grow mushrooms and we need people to help out. It would be a great team building event for anyone interested.

We also want to attract someone that is passionate about growing and the whole concept of the project. It's an amazing role to be able to take on. The...

This year has been quite a momentous one for Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI).

We have successfully taken on two extra Children's Centres (Sure Start) in Wonford and Countess Wear to accompany our existing Flying Start Children's Centre.

We have had a change of Chief Executive. I stepped into Alistair Macintosh's large shoes in July 2012 and have been getting to grips with the job over the last year and making changes so ECI is facing the challenges of the future head on.

We said a sad goodbye to our Harvest project, which has played such a big role in our work...

Exeter Community Bikes needs your old bikes!

Exeter Community Bikes (ECB) is a Project that is just starting in Exeter. It aims to provide unemployed people with the skills, confidence and knowledge to recycle and recondition unwanted and abandoned bicycles and in the process reduce landfill, encourage more environmental awareness and enhance our community’s health and well-being. Cycling reaches out to people of all ages, gender, and social class and can act as a vehicle for engagement with diverse and hard to reach groups.

Have you been meaning to get rid of an old bike cluttering up your garage, garden or home but didn’t...
