Making sure unpaid carers across Devon are aware of their legal entitlements is top of the agenda on Carers Rights Day this month, following a report earlier this year that evidenced the daily experiences of hundreds of carers in the county and the toll looking after a partner, family member or friend can take on them.

Youth Hub Devon is inviting young people to join a special double celebration event next week (Thursday 29 June). Since opening the service in 2021, 500 young people have been referred to the Youth Hub for a range of support including career advice, help with CV writing, interview skills, and signposting to other relevant services. When Brewin Dolphin associate investment manager James (Jay) Osborne, 28, collapsed and died from sudden cardiac arrest in 2017 caused by an undiagnosed hereditary heart condition, his family and friends established the charity Jay’s AIM to raise awareness of the condition and to reduce the number of young people who die of sudden cardiac death in the South West of England.

Banners created by people living with dementia who worked with a trio of well-known artists will be on display in Exeter until the end of March.

The banners, including one developed by members of Age UK Exeter’s Budding Friends group, are on show as a special exhibit in Exeter Library.

Comedian, writer, broadcaster and all-round British institution Arthur Smith hosts an evening of laughter and off the wall humour at Exeter Library on Thursday 28th February.

Visitors can expect an evening of sublime playfulness, crammed with jokes, anecdotes, short stories, poems, songs (at least 1 from Leonard Cohen) and readings from his recently published memoir ‘My Name Is Daphne Fairfax’ which has won praise from literary critics.
