On a sunny morning in early autumn, a group of Sri Lankan and Indian families were invited by Hikmat Devon to the Axe Estuary Wetlands.
Led by Tim Dafforn (Team Leader – People) and Meg Knowles (Education Ranger) from the East Devon District Council Countryside team, the tour started with a treasure trail, where each person collected items from nature – leaves, berries, flowers, even a bird feather.
From this exercise, the group discovered the rich colours and textures of autumn. Next stop was the bird hide, where everyone viewed different species of birds in the marshes...

Wilberforce, a seven year old Labrador Retriever, belonging to Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, just missed out on a place on the podium in the 22nd annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition.
The competition, organised by the Kennel Club and Dogs Trust, took place on Thursday (23rd October), in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster. Passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday 14th October 2014 at Kings College Hospital, London, Nicholas James, aged 56 years.
Beloved son of Colin and the late Ruth, much loved stepson of Christine, cherished brother of Jo, dear uncle of Stephanie and Ashley.
Will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
