Local children and parents came along to the East Devon District Council (EDDC) Community Festival in The Crescent in Littleham, Exmouth on Saturday 17 May.
As part of the day the new £40,000 outdoor Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) with lines and goals for netball, basketball and football, was officially opened.
Town Mayor and EDDC Champion for Exmouth, Councillor John Humphreys, cut the ribbon and declared the games area open and ready for fun. As part of the opening basketball coaching was available from a professional basketballer on the new games area.
East Devon District Council’s Countryside team will be starting their ever-popular annual series of Tree Walks on Monday 2 June at 6.30pm at Phear Park in Exmouth. The topic for this walk will be the management of trees in council-owned recreational areas.

Devon and Cornwall Police are expected to close more than half of their public front offices in a controversial bid to save money. Across the two counties the force is expected to fully close 10 out of 21 public front offices while the Newquay desk will only open during summer. The public desks at Exmouth, Tiverton, Honiton, Okehampton, Newton Abbot, Totnes Falmouth, Penzance, Launceston, Bude and Liskeard will all be closed under the plans. The Mayor of Exmouth, Cllr John Humphreys is to ‘break the ground’ as work starts on the new £5m Premier Inn for Exmouth next Tuesday.

A record number of South West beaches have achieved the highest bathing water standards this year according to a report from Marine Conservation Society (MCS) released today. The MCS 'Good Beach Guide’ shows that 173 out of 195 (88.7%) South West beaches received the top standard for excellent water quality.
Nationally MCS has recommended 538 out of 734 (73%) UK beaches tested during last summer as having excellent water quality –135 more than the previous year.
