The RSPCA has launched a new rehoming campaign to help find alternative homes for ‘farm cats’ in the South West who prefer the great outdoors.
The project aims to find homes for farm cats and other nervous felines who need less human interaction than a typical domestic cat. The aim of the project is to educate the public that not every feline is happy to be a lap cat and to find outdoorsy homes for these cats much more quickly.
Farm cats are often nervous around people but still need someone to provide food, water, shelter and veterinary care when needed. As the name...

Ten years ago Margaret Rice set out to research the history into the Chappell family, who were merchants and mayors of Exeter during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
Thomas Chappell was mayor of Exeter in 1588, and is Rice’s direct ancestor.
One of Thomas’s grandsons, Henry Bagwell (born in 1589) was a passenger in 1609 on a ship called the Sea Venture, part of a fleet of ships bringing supplies and colonists to the struggling settlement known as James Fort, later Jamestown, England’s first permanent colony in...

Latest figures show there are currently 2,020 children waiting to be adopted in England and, of those, 44% are in family groups of two or more. Groups of children wait an average of 17 months to be adopted, which is 36% longer (135 days more) than individual children. More than half of these groups (56%) even wait more than 18 months for their new family. For many potential adopters, this is due to groups being slightly older and worries about financial affordability,...

This Addams Family friendly show is suitable or everyone.
As we all wait patiently (or impatiently, as the case may be), for the end of lockdown restrictions and the return of longer, sunnier days with less torrential rain and howling winds, it can be hard to know what activities you can do as a family to keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained. Even if your children are old enough to understand why it is so important that we all stay home as much as possible, it is inevitable that cabin fever begins to creep in as we crave heading out into the outside world after a full year of the pandemic.
BARRISTERS at a Westcountry-based law service specialising in family and child law is supporting a new report that calls for parental breakdown to be moved away from a ‘justice’ response.
A 123-page report by the Family Solutions Group said that a legal response to parental disagreements over their children is inappropriate for many, and actively harmful for some.
Family barrister, Elizabeth McCallum, who co-founded Children in the Middle® with fellow Exeter barrister Sarah Evans, says: “The new report from the Family Solutions Group calls for a rethink of society’s...
