The cream of Devon’s farming world came together last night for the renowned Devon Farm Business Awards. The event saw representatives from all aspects of Devon’s huge farming industry come together at the Devon County Showground at Westpoint, last night in order to celebrate farming excellence. Farmer sentenced for animal welfare offences

A Devon farmer has been sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work having pleaded guilty to 18 animal welfare offences including failing to dispose properly of dead stock, and failing to keep adequate livestock records.

Mr Darren Facey, 43, of West Down pleaded guilty at Barnstaple Magistrates Court to all offences brought by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards following visits to his farm in June 2013.

Officers found carcase remains of 17 sheep, 28 cattle and 8 chickens in various stage of decomposition, indicating the length of time they had been left.

NFU: European vote paves the way

A positive vote by MEPs means the Government is a step closer in making key decisions on implementing the next CAP reform in England and Wales, the NFU said today.

Chagfarm, a new not-for-profit Community Interest Company located in Chagford has reached the half-way point of it's crowdfunding campaign.

Back British farming to put more British food on more British plates

In a year when British farming has received phenomenal backing from consumers, the NFU is urging the public to help turn around a decline in self-sufficiency that means the UK produces just 62 per cent of its own food.
