The countdown is on to the UK’s only marathon challenge series exclusively for women – and it looks like being the last one ever.

The Women Can Challenges on Sunday May 26 offer full, half and quarter marathon options, all mainly off-road and taking in the spectacular East Devon countryside and coastline.

Organisers Pauline Beare and Peg Wiseman are retiring after the event and founder Jo Earlam has stepped down after two years at the helm.

Cycle club takes fundraising efforts to new heights

An Exeter cycle group has raised record amounts of money for its chosen charity this year.

The BGE Cycling Club has donated £2,018 to FORCE Cancer Charity from various activities throughout the last 12 months.

Club members gathered at the charity’s headquarters for their final Cadence Café ride of the year when they presented a cheque for £1,725, plus money raised on the day and topped up to match the year - 2018.

BGE – Beers, Gears and Engineers – was founded by employees at Howmet in Exeter in memory of Colin Hooker, who died from cancer.

Chemotherapy for cancer patients launches in East Devon

Chemotherapy is now available in East Devon for the first time, thanks to funding from FORCE Cancer Charity.

Up until now, cancer patients have had to travel to Exeter for potentially life-saving treatment.

The new service is available to patients from across the East of the county every Friday between 9:30am and 3:30pm at Honiton Hospital.

Experienced nurses from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Cherrybrook chemotherapy unit will deliver the treatments.

This year's Great West run is almost upon us approaching and competitors are putting in final preparations on the fitness and fundraising front.

Kate Lloyd will be lining up at the start on Sunday (October 14) as part of the powerful #keepitlocal fundraising alliance between FORCE Cancer Charity, Hospiscare and Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) to promote support for local causes at this year’s event.

East Devon will again welcome hundreds of runners next year as the UK’s only marathon exclusively for women returns to the county. Entries are open for the third Women Can race on Sunday May 26 2019.

Five-time Olympian Jo Pavey has again thrown her support behind the event, which encourages women to walk, jog or run through some of the region’s most spectacular scenery. Next year’s Women Can event has a new format with three challenges, three start lines and one finish in Sidmouth.

Two chefs from an award-winning local restaurant are swapping the heat of the kitchen for a demanding cycle challenge.

Matt Mason, head chef at the Jack in the Green in Rockbeare near Exeter, and chef de partie Aidan King aim to cover 200 miles in two days to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity.

FORCE Cancer Charity has again teamed up with local solicitors to promote its Make A Will Fortnight campaign.

The promotion runs from September 10-24 when Ford Simey, Gilbert Stephens, Kitsons and Tozers – solicitors based in offices across Exeter, East and Mid Devon – will waive their simple will-making fee in return for a donation to FORCE.

Princesshay security team to walk 70 miles for FORCE Cancer Charity

Princesshay security team are challenging themselves to complete a 70 mile walk in 24 hours, whilst raising funds for its charity of the year, FORCE Cancer Charity.

On Thursday 12th July, the security team will start their venture in Dorchester via Abbotsbury, then through to West Bay, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Exmouth, before reaching Princesshay as their final destination. The team are taking part in The Maddox Challenge in memory of a former colleague Paul Maddox, based at another site, who recently lost his battle with cancer.

Cyclists share powerful motives for riding The Nello

Cyclists from all over Devon and beyond are gearing up for one of the most popular rides on the calendar.

The Nello, FORCE Cancer Charity’s biggest single fundraising event of the year, is on Sunday June 24.

Up to 1,500 cyclists will be taking on the challenge of riding 55 or 100 miles with both routes starting and finishing at Topsham Rugby Club.

Local charities form first-time partnership for Great West Run

FORCE Cancer Charity, Hospiscare and Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) have formed a partnership to promote support for local charities at this year’s Great West Run.
