Ottery St Mary’s new all-weather synthetic pitch, which is owned by East Devon District Council and run by operators LED Leisure Management Ltd, is now officially open.
Representatives from all the groups involved in the project gathered to watch International British field hockey player Giselle Ansley, who comes originally from Kingsbridge, Devon, cut the ribbon to open the pitch.
The main users of the pitch are pupils of The King’s School Ottery St Mary, the local community and Sidmouth & Ottery Hockey Club.

Olympic Gold Medal winning hockey player Giselle Ansley and fellow Olympic athlete Jo Pavey head up a star-studded list of sporting guests, which also includes Exeter Chiefs stars Julian Salvi and Gareth Steenson, Somerset Cricket's Lewis Gregory and Exeter City's Lee Holmes.

Giselle Ansley, part of the GB hockey squad who won gold in Rio 2016, paid Exeter School pupils a visit on Thursday 13 October. It was great for pupils to see how somebody from South Devon has gone on to represent GB at the Olympics and brought home a gold medal!
She attended school in South Devon with Mrs Clark and started playing hockey at Paignton Junior Hockey Club before moving to Plymouth Marjon and then continued to play during her studies at Loughborough University. She made her debut for England against South Africa in February 2013.
