TV channels to beam Devon to global audience

In just three weeks time a TV global audience of millions will tune in to see Devon at its best when the Tour of Britain returns to the county.

In what will be a worldwide showcase for the county on September 9, viewers will be able to watch three hours of live coverage of the Devon Stage of the Tour of Britain.

This year both ITV4 and the BIKE Channel UK will show the race live, while ITV4 will also air a one-hour highlights programme each day.

A University of Exeter marine biologist has won a prestigious award for his world-class work in the field of fish ecology.

Professor Steve Simpson, Associate Professor in Marine Biology and Global Change, received a medal from the Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI), a learned society that promotes the interests of fish biology and fisheries management, at a recent Symposium held in Bangor.

Everys Solicitors has announced plans to launch a specialist commercial team to facilitate deals worth millions of pounds for global businesses.

Ahead of the launch Everys has already helped secure several high value business deals. Thai corporation, the Srivikorn Group Holdings Co Ltd, whose shareholder owns a large share of Reading Football Club, recently completed on the purchase of the Madejski Hotel, next to the club’s stadium.

Four Devon schools chosen to boost global links

Four Devon primary schools, including one in Exeter, have been chosen to take part in a national initiative aimed at developing global education.

Redhills primary and pre-school in Exeter, Lady Modiford’s in Walkhampton and Meavy and Offwell schools have been selected to develop international links with Tanzania as part of a major new school twinning project.

Study charts global invasion of crop pests

Many of the world’s most important crop-producing countries will be fully saturated with pests by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a new study led by the University of Exeter.

More than one-in-ten pest types can already be found in around half the countries that grow their host crops. If this spread advances at its current rate, scientists fear that a significant proportion of global crop-producing countries will be overwhelmed by pests within the next 30 years.

Britain’s largest independent ship repairer and marine engineering services provider Burgess Marine has today completed the acquisition of Exeter-based superyacht procurement specialist Global Services and its sister company Global New Builds.
