Fragile images of Devon on show for the first time in a century

Thousands of fragile and irreplaceable images of Devon have been preserved for future generations to see thanks to University of Exeter experts.

The shots – including famous locations in Exeter and Devon as they looked generations ago - are on view for the first time in a century after magic lantern slides were digitised.

Historic home to open to public for first time

One of Devon’s hidden gems will be open to the public for the first time in its 250-year history as part of a national heritage event.

Newly refurbished Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter, will open its historically important grounds and Grade I listed house from noon until 4pm on Sunday, September 11, as part of the 2016 National Heritage Open Day.

New lease of life for historic manor house

A historic Devon manor house, which has passed through generations of the same family for more than 160 years, is to be opened to the public - as a country house wedding and events venue. Rockbeare Manor, which was built in around 1760, has undergone a £2m transformation to turn it into the perfect venue for special events. A TEAM of Devon builders has developed an eye for the tiniest detail after winning a contract to repair one of the south west’s most prestigious properties.

Woofenden Construction, which is based in Kentisbeare, near Cullompton, has won a contract to repair the historic ceilings of grade I listed Dorset property, Kingston Maurward House.

St Thomas Library is holding a Local History Day on Wednesday 21 January between 11am and 4pm.

There will be a speedway memories display and video footage, a real Falcons bike on display, a St Thomas memories display, churches of Exeter photos, a famous personalities display, a rolling slideshow, and pop-up talks as well as the opportunity for people to bring their own photos to show the St Thomas Local History Group.
