Exeter Labour looks to introduce doorstep food waste collection

Exeter Labour has pledged to complete work on the business case for kerbside food waste collections and to introduce the service at the earliest opportunity, if re-elected to run the City Council in May.

Exeter is already in the top 10% of district councils for waste minimisation – with residents producing less waste on average than nearly anywhere else in the country.

City to play Liverpool in FA Cup third round

Exeter City have been drawn at home against Liverpool in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Grecians have made it to this stage of the competition for the first time in a decade, and now the reward is a visit from Jurgen Klopp's Reds, a tie which looks to be the pick of the round.

Devon and Cornwall police are reminding people during the busy run up to Christmas to keep their possessions safe from opportunist thieves. Officers will be working closely with partners in the community to roll out a number initiatives over the coming weeks.

People are advised to protect their Christmas purchases by storing them out of sight, so burglars aren’t tempted to steal them.

Appeal after pensioner attacked in his home

Police are appealing to the public to help them track down the man responsible for an aggravated burglary that left a 77-year-old man unconscious in his home in Newton Abbot.

Brian Newton returned to his home in the Buckland area around 12.30am on Sunday 25 October to find his front door open. When he entered the lounge there was a man standing behind the door. The intruder demanded money before attacking Mr Newton and knocking him unconscious.

Concern grows for missing Devon woman

Police have released two new images of 48-year-old Jayne Brocklehurst from Budleigh Salterton who has been missing since Saturday 8th August.

Jayne was last seen on Saturday evening at her family’s flat on Budleigh Salterton and is described as being a medium build and has mousey brown shoulder length hair.

Landlords offered licensing discount

Landlords of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) are being offered £125 discounts for a licensing their properties if they sign up to an accreditation scheme.

The incentive comes as Exeter City Council and the University of Exeter actively attempt to drive up the standards of properties in the city for tenants.

Both the University of Exeter and the Students’ Guild are committed to promoting the AfS/Unipol Accreditation Scheme within the private sector housing market in Exeter.
