House prices continued to rise in the South West, but at a slower pace, according to the latest RICS Residential Market Survey.

In line with slowing momentum, surveyors are now anticipating a much flatter price outlook in the run up to Christmas, but over the course of the next 12 months they remain quite positive.

The level of sales activity was more or less unchanged on the previous month, but surveyors are still expecting transactions to hold up in the near term.

As the market stabilises in the region 17% more chartered surveyors saw a fall in new buyer enquiries...

Killerton garden near Exeter is a blaze with autumn colour from deep burgundies, brazen coppers to fiery yellow hues.

As part of the estate’s Victorian plant-hunting legacy, the garden showcases a variety of shrubs, trees and plants that produce colour through the seasons. Non-native plant species, from common Acers to Japanese Pagoda and Tibetan Cherry varieties, look particularly bright and colourful at this time of year; and visitors particularly enjoy the Mahonias and delicate, butter-yellow Tulip trees.

Head Gardener Kate Tuke said: "There’s such vibrancy so late in...

The householder very wisely did not let the man enter and alerted the matter to the police by calling 101.

Homes across Exeter are to come under close scrutiny in a major review of supposedly empty properties across the city to check that they are actually unoccupied.

The action is being taken because many people do not inform the Council when empty properties become occupied. This can lead to the local authorities missing out on council tax payments as well as New Homes Bonus payments that are paid out by the government on every home brought back into use.

Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing, Community Involvement and Maintaining Assets said: "Houses that have been...
