Exeter Hustings - Candidates need to outline family policy

Positive parenting programme Triple P have commented on last night's leadership hustings held in Exeter.

The parenting company work across the UK to support parents develop strategies to manage their child's behaviour and emotions.

Matt Buttery, CEO of Triple P UK, said:

'The largely absent discussion of family policy in Exeter's hustings was concerning. Isolating lockdowns and dealing with the uncertainty of the pandemic has had a big impact on children’s social, emotional and academic development, and we’ve seen mental health problems in young people double....

Candidates from the Labour, Conservative, Green and Liberal Democrat parties will put their case and respond to questions from the audience at a Hustings for the City Council Elections in May.

The Hustings starts at 7pm on Thursday April 19th at Exeter Community Centre, St Davids' Hill and is organised by Transition Exeter.

Laura Wright the Labour candidate for St Thomas, Aric Gilinsky, the Conservative candidate for St Davids, James Dart the St Davids candidate for the Liberal Democrats and Cllr Chris Musgrave for the Green Party will take part.

Transition Exeter has organized a hustings for the Devon County Council Elections on Thursday April 27th at Exeter Community Centre at 7pm.

Local candidates from will speak and answer questions from the public. The event will be chaired by Martyn Goss, Director of Church and Society and Convenor of Exeter Food Network.

The County Council election is on May 4th; however the proceedings may be coloured by the impending General Election on June 8th as many County Council matters are deeply influenced by policies of central government.

Hustings for the County Council elections will be held on Thursday 27th April at Exeter Community Centre at 7 pm

Hilary Whyard will represent the Labour candidates, Anne Jobson the Conservatives, Diana Moore the Green Party and Vanessa Newcombe the Liberal Democrats.
