Villagers came out in numbers to celebrate the official opening of the new permanent Ide Community Shop and Post Office.
Trevor Gardner (Chairman) said in his opening speech "Ide is an amazing village. The way in which everyone has pulled together has been brilliant, whether raising money, donating time or providing skills and expertise to fit out and decorate the shop."
Twelve months ago, the villagers of Ide, near Exeter, embarked on the seemingly impossible task of relocating their community shop.
The original shop opened in 2009 on a temporary site within a Portakabin in the village car park. Understandably, the council wanted the car parking spaces back. Eventually, after nearly two years, suitable premises were identified and £175,000 was raised, enabling the premises to be purchased and transformed from an old warehouse into a stylish and spacious new shop and post office.

Welcome in spring with a fun day at the farm and lots of activities for all ages!
Every year the farm welcomes in spring by throwing open its gates and inviting you to join them for the day.
There are nature walks along the trail to be explored and a straw bale den to play in. Sensational craft activities and storytelling in the orchard with OrganicARTS, as well as the chance to ride our tractor trailer up the farm's hills and valleys to visit the animals.
You can also tuck into some tasty food at the West Town Farm barbecue.
OrganicARTS is launching its 2013 programme with free open days on 13th and 14th January.
Find out about the work they do, see their new logo and try some free taster workshops in pottery, mosaics, printing, book making, bush craft, sketching, wassailing, bee stories, fibres, natural creams, wildlife walk, photography, natural pigments and charcoal.
Please note,13th January is for the general public and the 14th January for organisations and businesses.
