Mariners Away will raise funds for a cause close to their hearts

A special concert in aid of Charities supported by the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is organised by one of the south-west leading sea shanty crews Mariners Away.

The event features an evening of eclectic and original sounds of Devon brought to you by Mariners Away in collaboration with the highly talented Devon-born folk singer/songwriter Jim Causley, the immensely popular and original folk trio from Plymouth, Windjammer together with the internationally renowned and quite remarkable harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry.

Jim and Lukas will be showcasing new material they are writing together, offering a 21st century perspective on traditional song. Five times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Causley is renowned for his warm stage presence and his rich singing voice. With Lukas, the singer/accordionist performs a wide variety of material, both traditional and contemporary as well as his popular homemade settings of Charles Causley poems, as showcased on his album Cypress Well.

Folk Singer Jim Causley pays musical tribute to Charles Causley’s poems

On 6 November, the University of Exeter will be hosting a special gig by renowned Devon folk singer, Jim Causley.

At the gig, Jim, accompanied by guitarist Lukas Drinkwater, will be singing songs he has crafted from the words of poems by Charles Causley, one of Cornwall’s most celebrated 20th century poets and a distant relative of the folk singer. Charles Causley’s papers, including draft manuscripts of the poems which Jim Causley set to music, are held in the University’s Heritage Collections.
