Clyst Honiton Tunnel will be closed for two weeks from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 September for a lighting upgrade.

Currently the tunnel uses 238, mostly 400watt, lights – they will be replaced with 94 263watt LED lights.

The new lights will enable Devon County Council to make large energy savings.

It is estimated that in just four years the cost of installation will be offset by the saving in energy costs.

The new lights will also improve the quality of light in the tunnel and reduce the need for future closures which can be caused by bulk lamp changes and...

Hillside Product Design, based in Teignmouth, Devon have been instrumental in designing the Xyloband led wristbands used by Coldplay at Glastonbury in June and on their current, and previous world tours.

Coldplay headlined the famous Glastonbury festival’s Pyramid stage to a crowd of over 100,000 waving their LED wristbands.

This was the fourth time the band have headlined the Somerset Festival. The enormous field lit by the audience made for a different experience making the entire area look, and feel part of a piece of artwork that the millions on TV could only admire...

Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter this evening (Tuesday 17 May) from 11pm until 5am tomorrow morning.

Over the past few weeks a process known as hydro-demolition has been undertaken on the Countess Wear Flood Relief bridge, where high pressure water jets have been used to cut away the concrete but leave the reinforcing steel intact. (Further information on this can be viewed on Progress Report 1 at https://new.devon.gov.uk/bridgeroad/latest-news-and-alerts )

The reinforcing steel is all that now remains to link the edge of the...

Streetlight upgrade continues across Devon

Work to upgrade more than 24,000 streetlights to LED lighting will continue across Devon next month (April).

The £10.2 million scheme, using Challenge Funding which Devon County Council received following a successful bid to the Department for Transport, will convert streetlights to lower wattage LED lighting, and around 5,000 columns will also be replaced as part of the project.

The replacement of streetlights, on mostly main (A and B) roads, got underway earlier this year in Barnstaple, where around 5,200 lights and 1,100 columns are being replaced, and Kingskerswell,...

Exe Estuary Trail goes solar

Solar lights now illuminate the path of the Exe Estuary Trail between Exmouth and Lympstone thanks to a joint project costing more than £26,000 between Exmouth Town and Lympstone Parish Councils.

The work, funded by East Devon District and Devon County Councils, means that people who use the route can do so safely and stay healthy and fit too. The Trail is popular with cyclists and walkers, both for leisure and for commuting between Exmouth and Exeter, and many of these journeys are made in the dark, particularly in the winter months.

The newly-installed Astucia SolarLite...

As 90 percent of Brits admit to decorating their home and garden in the next few weeks, less than a quarter (23 percent) would consider the impact this might have on the electrics in their home.

The new study, commissioned by the UK’s leading regulatory body for electricians NICEIC and ELECSA surveyed 2,000 UK tenants and homeowners, and has revealed some disturbing facts about the safety of UK homes at Christmas. It found that 42 percent of Brits paid more attention to aesthetics than safety, with 1 in 5 admitting to feeling they needed to compete with their friends and neighbours...
