Exeter singer/songwriter Charlotte Ward is celebrating after reaching the national finals of the prestigious talent competition Open Mic UK.
Charlotte, 15, performed one of her original songs, Lies, taken from her first EP “Can I get a word in?” at the area heats in Fareham to win her place in the Open Mic UK Final at the NEC Birmingham in January. “I can’t believe it! Over 10,000 people entered the competition and I’m in the final 25 under-16s. It’s taking a while to sink in," she said.
Now in its fifth year, Open Mic UK has been described as “one of the toughest...
Devon's Luke Friend has made the final five acts in the race to see who will be the winner of this year's X Factor.
He was described as that dark horse of the competition by judge Sharon Osbourne and Oritse from hit band JLS also backed the 17-year-old to win.
Before this weekend's shows, Luke told TED how no one was safe in the competition after he found himself in the bottom two last week.

It's Big Band week, perhaps not the best genre for Luke, but we have no doubt that he will silence the sceptical and deliver another mind-blowing performance.
It's been an incredibly busy week for Master Friend, having returned home to Exeter on Tuesday he lost an important day of rehearsals so this week's catch up was short and sweet.
OJ - What was it like coming back to Exeter after the journey you've been on so far? LF - It was...
I first saw 17-year-old Luke Friend, from Teignmouth, perform earlier this year at the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink under a relatively tiny little tent with little more than his guitar and a mic.
At the time, I turned to my girlfriend and said 'this guy's pretty good'.
Usually there would be nothing that could possibly drag me away from the countless beer tents and packed food halls at the festival, but this young man had me hooked.
We sat down on a hay bale and watched on in awe for about an hour until Luke's set was over and then that...
The nation’s number one singing show moves into its spectacular live shows phase on Saturday night (8.00-10.15pm). Kicking off the series - it’s time to bring out the leg warmers and strap on the shoulder pads as The X Factor embraces the music of the 80s as the theme for the first live show.
The families and friends of not one but two Devon singers will be whooping and cheering on Saturday night, as Shelley Smith, 34, and Luke Friend, 17, will be appearing on the live show this weekend having impressed the judges enough to make it into the X Factor house. Shelley lives in...
