Recruits based at the Royal Marines’ Commando Training Centre at nearby Lympstone regularly use the commons for military exercises. The land is also visited by thousands of people daily for recreational reasons, such as running or dog-walking.

Run reaches 2,222 mile finale in Exeter

Twenty-one-year-old Gilbert Toby Ip aims to complete an incredible year-long challenge in Exeter High Street on New Year’s Eve.

Gilbert, an ex Student of Queen’s College Taunton who is currently studying at Bath University, set himself the enormous target of running 2014 miles during 2014, all in aid of Help for Heroes and The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

Having completed 2014 miles during early December he simply moved his goal to 2,222 miles - culminating in a staggering 100km ultra-marathon on New Year’s Eve.

Around 800 military personnel from Commando Training Centre Royal Marines celebrated the Corps’ 350th birthday this weekend with a speed march through the centre of Exmouth and Lympstone.

On Saturday (31 May) morning the Marines formed up into their training departments, known as Wings, tackled the grueling speed march through the town.

From gang fights via military discipline to paper lace - youth groups go on voyage of discovery

East Devon District Council's Community Development workers have taken their two youth groups on a series of horizon broadening day trips.

The first was a visit by 18 young people to a drama workshop in a studio at the University of Exeter. Six students and an experienced theatre facilitator helped the young people develop a piece of theatre that was performed to an audience at the end of the day.
