Help create unique new digital map of Exeter at special city event

Citizens of Exeter can help create a unique new digital map of the city containing their special memories.

Staff at the University of Exeter want help from Exonians to put together the new document at an event next month.

The aim is to chart the places that have personal meaning to the people who live in, work in or visit the city.

The National Trust’s Knightshayes in Tiverton is asking for visitors, members and volunteers to share their memories and stories of the property to help celebrate the 150 year anniversary of laying of the foundation stone of the house in 1869. The property will be hosting a series of celebration events in 2019 but need the community to help kick things off this September with a special project, ‘Mapping Knightshayes Connections’.

A project is underway at Knightshayes as part of an effort to create an archive of recorded memories from people who met and knew Joyce, Lady Heathcoat Amory. The team at Knightshayes are on a hunt to find anyone who might have known Joyce, visited her, met her, played golf with her or have any memories they’d like to share. The project will run alongside a larger project next year to celebrate Joyce and share stories about her life. Old photos discovered in Killerton’s roof inspire call for memories for time capsule

A collection of old camera negatives tucked away inside the roof of Killerton House, near Exeter in Devon, have been discovered during a major roof repair project.

Over 30 negatives, possibly hidden by the Acland family in the 1920s to be found years later, have inspired staff to create a time capsule and the National Trust property is calling for people to send in their memories of Killerton to be included.

Pastime Players: 'Tis the season to be jolly

The Pastime Players, an Exeter based amateur Reminiscence Theatre Company, is returning to the Cathedral's Chapter House.

Their latest show, Tis the season to be jolly! recalls, through verbatim memories and music, what Christmas was like in 1950's Britain. After the performance, there will be an opportunity for the audience to share their own memories of Christmas past.

Historic City Centre Theatre appeals for public memories to add to its free exhibition opening this October.

To celebrate 125 years since the laying of the foundation stone, the Barnfield Theatre is creating a free public exhibition of its varied and fascinating history.

The Theatre building has been used by the Exeter Literary Society, Exeter Camera club, the Rotary Club Military Club, Civil Defence, the Inland Revenue, the GPO and is rumoured to have been the site of an Army communications centre.

St Thomas Library is holding a Local History Day on Wednesday 21 January between 11am and 4pm.

Devon families invited to share links to WW1

Residents in Devon who have family links to World War One are being invited to share the stories, memories and artefacts that link their family to the war.

It's part of a special anniversary being held to commemorate the beginning of World War 1

A special service to mark this occasion will be held at Exeter Cathedral on Sunday 3 August. The service is open to everyone, but particularly welcome are Devon families with family links to WW1. The service will begin at 4pm

Exeter Memories 10th Anniversary

Today is the 10th anniversary of the popular local website, Exeter Memories. Conceived by David Cornforth, who had the idea that a website that accumulated memories of Exeter through the preceding decades, would be of interest for many, and would also become an important social record of Exeter through the last 100 years.
