Offering some of the best of British gastronomy in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Highbullen Hotel has this week announced the appointment of new Head Chef, Dean Griffin.

Dean joins Highbullen Hotel, Golf and Country Club from 4* Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Golf Course, Stratford upon Avon, where he headed up a fine dining restaurant and 150-cover events venue. Exeter Leukaemia Fund is delighted to announce that the charity has agreed to significantly support the North Devon District Hospital Chemotherapy Appeal. The charity has pledged £50,000 towards the appeal and will be used specifically to fund one of the four dedicated haematology consulting rooms. Man dies after becoming trapped by the tractor he was driving near Beaworthy

Woman killed in serious road traffic collision on A39 near to Kilkhampton

At around 7.15am on Friday 22 March 2013 a serious road traffic collision took place involving two vehicles. Police have confirmed that the driver of the silver VW Polo, a woman in her forties from the Bude area, has been declared deceased at the scene by paramedics. Her next of kin have been informed but other family members are yet to be told.

Huge wildlife haven to be created at Meeth

A vast wildlife haven is to be created at the former Meeth Quarry, a 150-hectare site recently purchased by the Devon Wildlife Trust thanks to funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company and generous individual donors. The Trust is now set to implement a programme of improvements for wildlife and local access thanks to financial support from Natural England.

Meeth Quarry is a former clay works located close to Hatherleigh within the Northern Devon Nature Improvement Area and the North Devon Biosphere.

Two assaults in Bideford could be connected say Police

Police in North Devon are appealing for witnesses following two assaults early on New Year’s Day.

Police are investigating two assaults that occurred on two separate women between 12.30am and 1.30am on Tuesday 1st January 2013 in the Bideford area.

In the first incident a 17yr old female was assaulted on The Quay next to “Radfords” Tobacconists.

Road closures due to extensive flooding in North Devon

Ongoing heavy rain in North Devon is causing extensive flooding and road closures.

Police report the A361 Barnstaple to Braunton is closed.

Also closed are the A39 Barnstaple to Ilfracombe and the A399 Barnstaple to Lynton. All minor roads in the area North of Barnstaple are also closed at this time due to rivers bursting banks, causing extensive flooding. UPDATE: “Following extensive Press Coverage on 5th and 6th December 2012, the high risk missing person, 7 year old, Neon Roberts has been located by Police Officers in Sussex. Emergency protection care has been put in place and Neon’s welfare will be considered in the High Court.
