Woman dies after quad bike overturns

A 63-year-old woman has died after her quad bike overturned at Sampford Courtenay, Okehampton on Monday [14 August].

Police are investigating the collision which happened on the B3215 at Appledore Hill around 6pm.

The rider sustained serious chest injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. She died in the early hours of Tuesday [15 August].

Fourth time lucky for Matt at 40th Dartmoor Folk Festival

IT was fourth time lucky for Matt Norman at the 40th anniversary Dartmoor Folk Festival, held at South Zeal near Okehampton at the weekend.

Folk music, song and dance enthusiast Matt, from Bristol, was declared the champion adult Dartmoor Step Dance competition champion for 2017 after a hotly-fought competition.

Matt, formerly from South Zeal and Exeter, had previously won the title in 2008, 2011 and 2015 and now equals competitor Lisa Sture, from North Devon, who holds the record for having previously won the title on four occasions.

Normal service resumes on Sunday Dartmoor rail service

Normal service will resume on the Okehampton Sunday Dartmoor Service this weekend.

Track speed restrictions between Coleford Junction and Okehampton have now been lifted, and GWR has confirmed that its Summer Sunday Service between Exeter and Okehampton, funded by Devon County Council, will return to the normal timetable from this Sunday (9 July).

Rail services on the Okehampton Sunday Dartmoor Service will continue to operate with a revised schedule until further notice.

Track speed restrictions remain in place between Coleford Junction and Okehampton, which requires the amended timetable.

The Summer Sunday Services, run by Great Western Railway (GWR) and funded by Devon County Council, will also continue to start and terminate at Exeter St Davids rather than Exeter Central.

5th Okehampton Food and Music Festival

The 5th Okehampton Food and Music Festival will take place on Saturday 24 June.

Building on the success of previous years, the 2017 Festival will provide even more music, a wide range of foods and special events and a fun evening of music.

Revised schedule for Dartmoor rail service on Sunday

Rail services on the Okehampton Sunday Dartmoor Service will be running with a re-timed schedule this weekend (Sunday 11 June).

This is due to ongoing track speed restrictions between Coleford Junction and Okehampton.

The Summer Sunday Services, which are run by Great Western Railway (GWR) and funded by Devon County Council, will start and terminate at Exeter St Davids rather than Exeter Central.

Although the departure times are similar to the usual service, journeys will take around 15 minutes longer. Timings will be -

A Hen Night in memory of mum

Rebecca Goodenough and a group of friends are having a Hen Night with a difference. They are taking part in The Twilight Walk, a ladies only event in Exmouth on 8th July raising much needed funds for Hospiscare.

When she was just 13 years old Rebecca's mum died in St Michael’s Hospice, East Sussex. This was back in 1987 when it was a rarity to find a hospice, and at that time there were just six beds available at St Michael’s.

Tributes paid to crash victim Marin Evans

A woman who died in a road traffic collision on the A3079 at Thorndon Cross, Okehampton, has been named as 25 year old Marin Evans from Bradford, Holsworthy. Her family has paid a moving tribute to her.

Officers from the serious collision investigation team are appealing for witnesses to the collision on which happened at 8.35am on Saturday 13th August 2016.
